CHIVALRY AIN'T DEAD
The recent infamous events and continuously increasing
incidents of violence (physical, mental and sexual) on women have created a
living hell on earth for them. In such a negative atmosphere when their minds
are inflicted with negativity and insecurity, it’s a duty of every single “Man”
out there to help the women to restore their faith in the reality that “Not all
men are the same” and Chivalry isn't dead.
Now here I would be adding up a few tips on how you can help creating positive
vibes and act as a ray of hope with your simple actions. For the following part
whenever I am referring to women: I m using up that word common for your friend,
wife, girlfriend, colleague, sister, mother, daughter or any stranger.
Starting with the easiest ones first
1. THE BASICS
The basics of giving respect to the woman you are with lies in your simplest
actions. Open and Hold the door for them when you are entering a place or simply
pull the chair for them when she sits to dine. This won’t take much of your effort but would surely make them feel respected
and loved.
Whenever commuting on a metro/bus/local or any other public conveyance, if
there is a lady standing and/or looking for a seat, be the first person to
offer a seat. Sitting in a crowded public vehicle is definitely more
comfortable and safe for them than standing and it is your job as a gentleman
to add to their comfort and safety whenever you can.
3. SPOT THEM OUTSIDE THE GYM
If you see them carrying things, always offers to carry it for them. Even they
know that they can carry all the stuff on their own but you should always try
to grab the honor of making them feel free and easy.
Whenever you are talking to them, especially a stranger, you
should be soft-spoken and decent in your speech, face expressions and body
language. No matter who starts the conversation, your manner should always be courteous.
And avoid using slangs and cuss words as much as possible.
It’s not the 14th century anymore. Join them in
with their work more often. Be it preparation of a presentation at your
workplace or cooking up an exotic meal in the kitchen or the weekend laundry.
They might not want you to share the work sometimes but on your part you should
always offer if they would mind to. And never say a nay if they ask you for
help with something.
Ask them to teach you some of their work. Let it be
her/their hobby for instance and in return you can make them learn some of the
stuff which has been stereotyped as “manly” but she/they always wanted to try,
something as simple as teaching them to ride your Royal Enfield. Doing such
things will not only develop confidence in her/them but would also make you
realize that we all can be equally good at every work if we try.
This goes out particularly for the stranger scenario. No
matter if you are voluntarily assisting her with something or if she has asked
you, your sole purpose should be just to get the job done, not her number or
Facebook. It is because of this behavior why women try not to seek your help
even in an event when it is needed.
Its late dark and it is unsafe for her to travel alone.
Offer to drop her home safely if she doesn't mind. It is a situation when you
should take the lead and ask her. Even if she is a stranger, ask with respect
and it is highly possible that you were the guardian angel she might be looking
for. BUT KEEP IN MIND NUMBER 7.
9. CONFRONT THE EVE-TEASERS
Anywhere you see, Every time you see, in whatever way you
can.
10. MOTIVATE YOUR BUDDIES
This is an indirect but the most effective way to spread the
goodness. Also, slam your gang if they are objectifying a colleague a friend or
even a stranger in a “harmless” discussion. Be a Man.
